Newest California Trend: Naked Windows
(Sacramento, California) – According to experts at California Energy Consultant Service the trend that emerged in 2006 and leads the way in 2008 is simple --- more glass and less wall space.
“In a vast number of remodeling projects, wherever there’s a wall, homeowners seem to be crying out to fill it with windows. According to Phil Isaacs “Consumers throughout California are trying to ‘explode’ their living spaces with space and light. They’re embracing designs that allow them to flood the home with natural sunlight, by maximizing the creative use of windows and doors.”
Another trend Phil has picked up on during the past year while selling top Energy Star rated windows is the growing reluctance of homeowners to cover their windows. “A decade ago consumers would purchase window treatments of all types to accent a room and cover their windows,” “Now the trend is toward letting the windows themselves serve as the accent in the home. We’re seeing only minimal window coverings --- such as valences --- used on windows. For the most part, the openness of the uncovered windows is being used by homeowners as a transition to the outdoors.”
Phil Isaacs explains that one reason homeowners in California may be moving away from window coverings is because glass options in windows are now more energy efficient than ever before.
“The old-fashioned thinking was that you had to cover the window to prevent ultraviolet (UV) rays from damaging carpeting and furnishings.” “With advances in window glass available in today’s market, this concern is erased. California Energy Consultant Service’s sells high quality windows with options to select Low E glass that can block up to 84 percent of the UV rays and prevent damaging rays from entering the home.
“In summer months, Low E glass helps keep cool air inside the home and hot air out. It works just the opposite in winter months by keeping heated air inside and cool air outdoors. Homeowners especially interested in having the most thermally efficient windows possible, are opting for California Energy Consultant Service’s broad range of window products.
Another reason homeowners appear to “leave their windows naked” more these days may be to showcase the decorative options they select to enhance the units themselves. “Windows with V-Groove or Pencil Brass Grids, unique grid patterns or a specialty glass option don’t need additional adornments.” “Homeowners don’t want to ‘hide’ these exceptional design elements in their windows, so they’re more eager to forget about window coverings and welcome in the natural sunlight. As we move forward, all indications are that homeowners will continue to increase the use of windows and doors as accent and design elements when remodeling their cherished, older homes.”
