How Professionals Replace Double-Hung Window Sashes

Windows, no matter how well-made they are, aren’t invulnerable fixtures in your home. Depending on how old they are or what damage they sustain, it’s possible that something in your window will require a replacement at some point. With that in mind, it’s best that you understand how the process works and how your contractor gets the job done.

In this post, the experts of California Energy Consultant Service show you how window professionals replace the sashes of double-hung windows.

Remove the Old Sash

To install a new sash on your double-hung window, your residential window replacement contractor will first need to remove the old, damaged one. To do this, they’ll first unlock the window and raise it up to four to five inches. Once they’ve done that, they’ll unlock the tilt latches at the top and pull the sash down to a 90 degree angle. When the sash is at 90 degrees, you can release the sash from the main frame.

Add the New Sash

Installing the new sash is as simple as doing reversing what they did to remove your damaged sash. Double-hung window sashes have pivot bars that can be attached to the cam locks of the window and to install your new sash, all they’ll have to do is secure the bars to these locks. Afterwards, they just need to close the sash into the main frame and put the tilt latches back in place. Once they’ve done that, you now have a new sash for your double-hung window.

Why Hire a Contractor

The aforementioned steps seem easy enough to do on your own but it’s still highly recommended that you don’t replace the sash on your own, especially if you’re inexperienced in doing so as it could result in further damage to your window. Instead, consider hiring a professional like California Energy Consultant Service, a leading supplier of durable and affordable replacement windows like Simonton, to get the job done.
