- Upgrading to more efficient appliances can save money and increase tenant safety.
Multifamily Program: Measure Requirements
- All multifamily properties must have at least 5 contiguous units.
- All properties participating in the Multifamily Program must work with SMUD’s Tenant Engagement team, but only qualifying properties may include the low-income incentive.

We couldn't be more pleased with our new roof! Sam, John and Oscar did an amazing job!! They were prompt, thorough, and did a great job of communicating. We highly recommend them.
SMUD Multifamily Program: Technical Equipment Requirements
- Mixed Fuel properties: Multifamily properties with 5+ units with electricity and gas consumption are eligible to participate in the program through the following: Convert (at minimum) one or both existing gas sourced mechanical system(s), domestic hot water and HVAC to all-electric heat pump solutions. Mixed fuel properties that install qualifying and incentivized Go Electric measures may also be eligible for additional supporting energy efficiency incentives.
- All-Electric properties: Multifamily properties with only electricity consumption onsite and at which HVAC and DHW systems are already heat pumps are eligible for supporting energy efficiency measures.
- Multifamily properties that choose to only participate in the program’s Commercial Multifamily Electric Vehicle measures, may do so with or without the installation of qualifying building equipment measures.
- The SMUD Multifamily Handbook includes additional program participation requirements.
