Does PGE Replace Windows?

Updated windows are a smart energy choice for your home and your wallet. But the cost up front can deter homeowners from undergoing the window replacement process or prompt them to look into savings opportunities. For those with PGE, in places like Roseville and El Dorado Hills, we’ve found that many ask whether or not PG&E replaces windows, or has any programs for window replacement.

Unfortunately PG&E does not replace windows themselves and they do not offer window replacement rebates for Northern California customers. However, replacing your windows can still provide you with an immense amount of PG&E savings that make installing new windows one of the most cost-effective decisions you can make for your home.

How Window Replacement Saves Northern California Homeowners on Energy Costs

PG&E is consistently raising its rates for customers in Sacramento, Orangeville, Fair Oaks, and throughout Northern California and the cost of cooling and heating a home is becoming prohibitive for many local homeowners.

You can decrease your PGE costs with window replacement. You will need an experienced window replacement contractor, as this is not something that PG&E can do. Installing efficient double pane windows can then yield 30% on average in monthly energy savings. This is possible because new windows increase the efficiency of your home through:

  • Double Panes – Many older homes in the Sacramento area have single pane windows that have one pane of glass. Newer double-pane windows use two panes of glass with a small gap in between. This provides extra insulation to slow the transfer of hot or cool air. Even for homes with double pane windows from the 90s or early 2000s, the increased efficiency of newer windows can require significantly less energy.
  • Improved Frame Materials – Older window frames were constructed from metal, which is highly conductive and allows for the easy transfer of heat. New free materials, in addition to being more aesthetic, are superior at preserving energy and have insulation chambers built in to further promote energy conservation.
  • Eliminate Gaps in the Framing – Over time, the wooden structure around a window will begin to shift and create small gaps between the window and wood framing. These are responsible for a significant amount of energy loss. Window Replacement restores the tight seal around your window to reduce airflow.

All of these advantages of window replacement can help reduce the amount you spend on heating and cooling through PGE so that you can immediately begin paying off your investment in new windows.
