Murals for Mather: Commemorating 100 Years of California & Federal Aviation History

When the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department approached California Energy Consultant Service about sponsorship for a multi-part mural installation at Mather Field, our answer was “Yes”!

California Energy Consultant Service was pleased to underwrite the installation of aviation-history art to mark the 100th Anniversary of Mather Field in Rancho Cordova, CA.

While assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Robert Smith, joined Leadership Rancho Cordova Class XII during the Spring of 2018 and began working on a class project. When Lt. Smith reached out to Cal Energy to request financial support for this endeavor, and Cal Energy enthusiastically agreed.

“Our Leadership Rancho Cordova Class really wanted to honor the history of the contributions of Mather Field to the local community, the state, and our country,” said Smith. “We agreed that art clearly would be the best way to help tell Mather’s important story, and we asked local businesses for support to make this happen.”

Victoria Smith, a local artist, accepted the commission to conceptualize, paint, and install four murals at Mather Veterans Village of Mercy Housing on the grounds of Mather Field. Each 4’ by 8’ mural depicts a 25-year period of time in Mather Field’s 100-year history and is permanently affixed.

The celebratory unveiling of the murals took place on Tuesday, September 18 at the Sac Jet Center, Mather Field. Rancho Cordova Mayor Linda Budge, Lt. Smith, and Phil Isaacs of Cal Energy attended the festivities, along with local business representatives, US military veterans, and community members.

“We’re proud to remember the hard-working history of Mather Field, which is the cornerstone of today’s Rancho Cordova, now home to thriving companies and communities,” said Phil Isaacs, president, California Energy Consultant Service. “At Cal Energy, we are always seeking ways to contribute to the greater Sacramento community – our customers, friends, families, and business partners.”
