Considerations to Make Before Choosing a Patio Door

California Energy Consultant Service is Sacramento’s leading glass patio door and sliding glass door installation and replacement service. As a window contractor, we work with the manufacturers that make both the best windows and sliding glass doors for properties throughout the region, offering amazing door types depending on your preferences.

Most of the time, when someone calls us to replace their sliding glass door, their goal is to find a door that is the exact same size and shape as the existing space. But there are situations where you may want to change the door to better match your preferences and aesthetics.

The following are some things to consider when choosing a patio door or sliding glass door:

  • Energy Efficiency – Patio doors are often the largest “windows” of your home. As a result, you’ll want to make sure that you’re choosing a door with very energy efficient glass, as this will prevent a lot of the heat transfer that may occur during the warm and cold months.
  • Aesthetics – There are many different types of patio doors, from bifold to stacking. You can also change the number of panels, the color of the frame, and a lot more.
  • Open Side – One thing that we find with many of our customers is that the initial location where the sliding glass door opened from (and the area that you lock/unlock) was not always meeting their needs. You can switch the side that the door opens from very easily when replacing a sliding glass door.
  • Install Type – Many people choose retrofit sliding glass doors which fit into the hole of the existing space. But you may want to consider a new construction installation. This gives the door a built-in appearance that many people prefer for their patio doors.
  • Security – Patio doors can be designed with security features that can prevent someone from opening the door from the outside or breaking in. If security is an issue on your property, you may want to talk about the different options available.

Patio doors come in many different styles and options. Make sure that you’re choosing the one that is best for you. At California Energy Consultant Services, our sales team truly knows patio doors, and can walk you through the process of selecting one that matches both your aesthetic vision and your functional goals.
