Signs it is Time to Replace Your Property Siding

At some point, your siding will need to be replaced. Sometimes, the choice to replace your siding is strictly a cosmetic one. You may simply find that you want a new design for your property, and your existing siding doesn’t match your vision. But all siding also has a lifespan. Even if you love your current siding style, there is going to be a time when you will need a siding company in Sacramento to replace it.

How Do You Know It’s Time to Replace Your Siding?

Siding doesn’t simply fall into immediate disrepair. It tends to start to wear away over time, with challenges that can start so small that you may not even notice them. But there are signs that you can look out for that will help you recognize when your siding has done its job, and it is time to replace it with something new. These include:

  • Clearly Visible Signs of Damage – By the time you notice visible signs of damage on your property siding, it is usually well passed its lifespan. Though some siding may start to show signs of cracks or wear over time, most siding problems occur gradually out of view. If you’re able to clearly see signs of damage, it usually means that your siding is ready to be replaced.
  • Bugs or Rodents – When siding starts to wear away, the first thing that happens is that it opens up holes that pests can use to enter your property. If you’re seeing more insects than normal – or you’re seeing more rodents than normal – that is frequently an issue that is directly related to the age of your siding.
  • Weather Damages and Indoor Water Damage – Siding has many purposes, but its primary job is to make sure that your property is protected from weather damage. Anything that indicates that water, heat, or moisture is getting into your property is a sign that your siding is failing. Look for water stains, paint peeling, and other indications of a weather related issue indoors, and you may have a siding problem.
  • High Energy Bills – Higher energy bills may be caused by a wide range of factors. As an energy efficiency company, we can typically assess your property and see what the cause may be. Sometimes it’s the HVAC. Sometimes it’s the water heater. Sometimes it’s the windows. But in some cases, it means there are leaks in the siding that are allowing substantial heat transfer.

These are all signs that your existing siding may have a problem – a problem that may be significant enough to warrant siding replacement. But not everyone replaces their siding because something is wrong with it, either. In fact, the choice to replace siding can sometimes be a comfort and financial one.

That is because many of the homes in the region, especially those in the Sacramento suburbs and downtown, also have siding that has very poor energy efficiency. Older homes did not have energy efficiency requirements, which means they provide very little insulation to protect against heat transfer.

For properties that are too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, replacing siding could be one of the most effective ways to start reducing your energy bills and preventing uncomfortable weather patterns.
