HVAC Maintenance Tune-Ups: An Overview

Regular tune-ups are part of your HVAC system’s care and maintenance routine. It makes sure that all parts are running smoothly, which helps prevent unexpected breakdowns when you need it most. HVAC and window replacement contractor California Energy Consultant Service shares an overview of what happens during a typical HVAC tune-up.

Adjustments and Recalibrations

HVAC systems have many intricately moving parts that all need to be in sync, much like a well-designed clock. Your HVAC technician will first inspect the condition of these moving parts, clean them and apply lubrication to reduce friction. Refrigerant levels will then be tested and refilled as needed. Low refrigerant levels will increase the strain on the HVAC system. The HVAC technician will check for leaks, and will recalibrate the thermostat to ensure accurate response.

Air Filters

The air filters need to be regularly cleaned and or replaced when dirty. Clean air filters let air flow freely within your home. This can help reduce indoor heating and cooling requirements and lead to improved overall home performance, and lower energy bills. Clean air filters also help maintain indoor air quality by trapping indoor air pollutants, preventing them from getting into the HVAC system components. Your HVAC technician will discuss whether your HVAC system will need a better air filter.

Safety Inspection

HVAC Tune-ups also feature a multi-point safety inspection. During the course of this inspection, refrigerant tubing and electrical components will be inspected for signs of wear and tear. These parts will then be replaced as needed. Air pressure levels, shutoff valves, and switches will be tested, as well. If the technician finds potential hazards such as burn marks, improper ignition and exposed wiring, then repairs will be done as needed.

Other parts of the HVAC system, such as the blower assemblies, will also be tested. Moving parts such as dampers may undergo testing and recalibration to ensure proper operation. Vents and registers throughout the house will be inspected for obstructions and placement. Finally, you will receive a report of your HVAC system’s condition, including problem areas that will require repairs.
